Hi all --

I'm so excited at how our speaker list is shaping up for the October event -- The Human Side of Technology : a CCASTD learning technologies event -- hosted by Roosevelt University at the University Center in downtown Chicago on October 18th & 19th, 2006!

If you couldn't make it to the ASTD International Conference & Expo (ICE) held in Dallas in early May, no worries! You'll have another chance to attend sessions by some of the same speakers from national.

Here's who we have speaking for us come this October:

  • Steve Denning (www.stevedenning.com) - former Program Director, Knowledge Management for the World Bank. Global consultant and author on the use of business narrative and organizational storytelling for sparking organizational change and encouraging collaboration. Steve will deliver our opening keynote on October 18th and offer a special half day workshop to event attendees.
  • Lou Russell (www.lourussell.com) -- CEO of Russell Martin & Associates and ASTD Press author -- Lou will discuss project management for trainers. Lou will deliver our closing keynote on October 19th and offer a special half day workshop.
  • Jennifer Naughton (http://www.astd.org/astd/cplp) -- Program Manager, ASTD Certification Institute -- will deliver a question & answer session on the new professional certification program -- the Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) credential and the ASTD Competency Model. The CPLP is recognized by the Department of Labor and therefore recognizes workplace learning & performance as a profession.
  • Tim Keelan -- founder & CEO, StoryQuest (www.mypodcastpage.com) -- Podcasting 101 -- The StoryQuest vision is to help people share the voices, experience, passion, and stories of their successes with employees, customers, and the world. Tim's presentation involves how to create compelling messages and deliver them using podcasting.
  • Chrissie Harms -- Training & Support Manager, Gardner, Carton & Douglas LLP (www.gcd.com)-- The corporate university Chrissie started -- GCD Institute -- is now five years old. Chrissie will share her experiences building, launching, and maintaining a corporate university -- and provide insights into their next steps -- internal assessment programs using Questionmark Perception.
  • Bruce Mabee, CPLP -- OD consultant extraordinaire -- Bruce will present for two sessions -- "Start Change Right! What OD Methods Can Initiate the Best, Not Worst, of a Technology Change?" and "If Most Changes Fail in the Follow-Through, How Do You Make Your Follow Though Succeed?"
  • Dick Axelrod from The Axelrod Group (http://www.axelrodgroup.com/)-- Dick is a collaborative change consultant -- he's into 'organizational barn raising' - and the author of "You Don't Have to Do It Alone | How to Involve Others to Get Things Done." Dick will deliver a presentation on meeting management -- how to get people engaged in your tech initiatives and keep them there!
  • Dr. Moshe Yudkowsky (http://www.pebbleandavalanche.com/) -- a world renowned expert in speech technology, Dr. Yudkowsky has a new discipline -- disaggregation -- and a new book out, "The Pebble and the Avalanche | How Taking Things Apart Creates Revolutions." Moshe will deliver a presentation on using technology for transformative learning.

I'll keep posting to this message thread as more speakers are confirmed for October 18th & 19th.

Another confirmed speaker!

Amy Zuzick-Lifschitz is the IT Learning & Development Manager for Dell. Amy is flying in from Texas to facilitate a session on a project she just completed with Julia England (IT Learning Consultant) -- identifying all competencies across IT positions, worldwide, and developing career paths and talent management plans.

Dell is using a tool called CPS to track the competencies, publish them, and produce organizational health reports so they can pinpoint training needs and use training as a specific intervention.

Amy & Julia will present on their project, from soup to nuts, including how they've used technology to support the initiative.

Another confirmed speaker!

I'm very excited to announce Carri Kaufman, Director, Office of Mentoring for LaSalle Bank Corporation as one of our breakout session speakers.

Carri will present on mentoring -- how to get started & manage a mentoring program, what it means to be a good mentor and mentee, along with the tools she uses to support LaSalle Bank's mentoring programs.

This event can't be missed!

The focus of the conference is a) peer-based learning, practical advice from practical experience, b) raising awareness of the ASTD Competency Model, the integration of the areas of expertise, and people's roles in it, and c) how technology is a tool (and only a tool) that can be used to support the areas of expertise.

Have an idea? Let me know! technology@ccastd.org
